Time-Bombed Skyscraper

Summary:

In this movie, it’s Shinichi’s birthday (May 4). He was invited by Prof. Leo Joel to a party; not knowing that Shinichi had shrunken into Conan. Few days before his birthday, he receives a call from a strange man, who seems to be challenging Shinichi. He tells Conan (Shinichi) to find several bombs all over Tokyo. Later, Conan finds out that the bomber was Prof. Leo Joel, who was an Architect. He was planning to destroy his creations that has flaws from his British style of architecture. Ran, who was waiting for Jimmy in the cinema (She had invited him to see a movie on his birthday) was caught inside the building when a bomb exploded. Conan tries to rescue Ran but because of the explosion, the path to Ran is blocked by a door that is locked permanently. Conan used the voice-changer bow-tie and talked to Ran as Shinichi. He called Ran and she replied from beyond the door. Conan (with Shinichi’s voice) asked her if she sees something strange around there inside and she saw the huge and heavy time-bomb. He instructed Ran how to deactivate it. As she follows what Shinichi says, the last wire to be cut is to be decided by Ran. Since RED and BLUE were the remaining wires, she chose the blue one to be cut because the movie they were going to see was about two people who loved each other being connected by a red cord. They ended up safe.

The story begins with Ayumi watching a vampire movie late at night in her apartment. At her mother’s insistence, the little girl goes to bed, but is awoken minutes later by the sound of Kaitou Kid landing on her balcony. After a brief conversation, Kid flies off, pursued by the police (who are lead by 8Inspector Nakamori). The next day, she discusses the meeting with her friends, and Ai Haibara asks Conan what the “Heisei Holmes” intends to do. Conan retorts that Kid will be caught eventually. The movie then cuts away to a massive meeting at the metropolitan police department (which Kogoro is attending as well), headed by the superintendent of investigation, Shintaro Chaki. Chaki states that they have received a note from Kid stating his next crime, marked “From the dusk of the lion to the dawn of the virgin, when the clock without the second hand is pointing toward the twelfth letter, I shall take the memories’ egg, from the shining sky chamber”. The note is signed “The Last Wizard of the Century”.

As a result, the killer now knows that Ran has seen his/her face, s/he must get rid of the sole eye witness. Conan must find the murderer while protecting Ranand his true identity.

Professor Agasa and the Detective Boys (Ayumi, Genta, Mitsuhiko, and Ai) also go to Tropical Land. At Tropical Land, one of the suspects approaches Kogoro and Ran. The man is stopped, due to the combined efforts of the Detective Boys and taken in for questioning by Kogoro. As it turns out, the man was merely attempting to talk to Kogoro- and the murderer is still at large. Meanwhile, Conan discovers who the real murderer is. Realizing that Ran is in grave danger, Conan rushes off to Tropical Land and searches for Ran. When he finally catches sight of Ran, Ran is already being targeted by the murderer. Conan contacts the Detective Boys via the badge communicator and Ran is saved by Agasa. Thoroughly frightened, Ran runs off, with both the murderer and Conan in pursuit. As a pair of towers in Tokyo are being prepared for their grand opening, there is a series of murders of people connected to the towers. Conan suspects that the mysterious B.O. may also be involved. The detective boys with Dr. Agasa are there for camping while they meet up with Ran, Sonoko, and Kogoro Mouri. Mouri was invited by his classmate Tokiwa Mio who is the owner of the Tokiwa corporation. However, there are a series of murders and a sake cup is left as a clue by the murderer. The victims were Mr.Ooki and Mr.Hara, the hacker and game programmer (he was killed by Gin for hacking into the Black Organization data into the Tokiwa corporations computers. He also creates a machine which shows the face of the user from ten years later. It shows an error for Conan and Haibara. Ayumi tells Ran that she really likes Conan but her ‘woman’s intuition’ tells her Conan likes Ran. Mitch tells Ran that he likes both Ayumi and Ai.

The third victim was Ms. Tokiwa Mio herself. She was killed on the opening ceremony. All of them were killed by the painter Mr. Kiseragi because the tower obstructed his view of Fuji mountain, which he spent his life-time painting. The black organization plants bombs in the building to both destroy the Tokiwa Corporation computers and thinking Shiho Miyano a.k.a was there but mistake Sonoko for her and tried to shoot her in the lift (because she got a perm as Haibara has which made her look like Shiho). Gin was able to track down Haibara because of her strange habit of calling her deceased sister’s telephone and later deleting the message. Ran save both her and Conan’s life by jumping off the building with ropes tied to their waists and kicked open a window using momentum. Upon discovering the children are still on the tower, Conan breaks his skateboard in the movie jumping to the other side of the bridge which was blasted to save his friends. They find themselves in a room full of bombs and use the car which Mouri won in the Guessing 30 seconds game. Using the fact that Ayumi can count exact 30 seconds when Conan is beside her the count for the right timing and jump to the other building in the car along with Mr. Kiseragi who became unconscious after Conan shot him with his watch because he was about to commit suicide. Haibara decides to sacrifice her life but Genta and Mitsuhiko save her. The story ends with everyone reaching safe and sound into the pool while Kogoro discovers that his car is in the pool.

A stage actress, Julie wants to use her star sapphire for her upcoming play and asks for Kogoro Mouri’s help to protect it after showing Kogoro a letter from Kaitou Kid. On the day of the theft, Kid appears at the theatre disguised up as Shinichi Kudo but ends up fleeing in the end without the jewel. To thank them, Julie invites Kogoro and everyone to Hakodate, and they all travel on an airplane to get there. In the air, one of the show actor, Shinji, who was supposed to be elsewhere and Ran’s mother, Eri Kisaki, joins them on the plane. As the plane takes off, Julie comes in physical contact with most of the individuals she invited, making them all suspects to her death by consuming a piece of poisoned chocolate, a homicide later found to be committed by her makeup artist, Atsuki.

The captains were also poisoned from Julie and were not able to pilot the plane, so Shinji agrees to take over because he supposedly “took courses”, and appoints Conan to assist him. Conan figures out that Shinji is Kaitou Kid when Conan is asked to assist, as this logic would not apply in a similar situation. The storm and fire at the airport make it impossible to land while the plane fuel is running low. Conan picks a stable area that can support a commercial plane. Ran and Sonoko eventually take over piloting the plane while Kid escapes by jumping off the plane and Conan has to “go to the bathroom.” Conan then switches over to Shinichi’s voice and guides Ran for landing the plane. Ran tells Shinichi that she loves him but ends the moment by telling him that she suddenly sees lights at the site. It turns out that Kid went near the police and uses police cars (because this policeman is obsessed with catching him) as guiding lights to land the plane. All went well, and the movie ends with Ran talking to Shinichi over the phone again arguing about silly things, thinking that it was Kid who guided her to land the plane, and is relieved that “her secret” isn’t out.

The 9th annual Detective Conan movie sets sail on a 100 million yen luxurious cruise. Fifteen years ago, a cruise named Yashiromaru, built by the Yashiro group, sank while sailing. In the present, a new cruise, the Saint Aphrodite, was built by the Yashiro group and Conan and the rest were invited through Sonoko. Earlier, the husband of the CEO of the Yashiro family group, an established ship architect, had a heart-attack and drove his car down a cliff. On the second day of the cruise, the CEO herself was found murdered in her room. Later, her father, the President of the Yashiro group was also found missing. He had been thrown off the cruise into the ocean, seemingly by the same person. At the welcoming party, Kogorou shows off his deduction skills, and concluded that the sub-designer of the cruise, Akiyoshi, was the murderer. However, Conan has different ideas. Kusaka, a scriptwriter who worked in co-operation with Akiyoshi on a script, was the culprit. Kusaka reveals that the accident from 15 years ago was a scheme to sink the ship deliberately to get insurance. His father was murdered when he discovered the captain of the ship was drugged and left to die. Kusaka immediately set off bombs and escaped by sea and the Detective Boys gave chase. After they successfully took down the criminal, more bombs were ignited. All passengers were evacuated, but Ran returned to her hiding place during the hide-and-seek game to find a “gold medal” made by sea-shells the Detective Boys made for her. However, as the ship swayed, she fainted in the enclosed area.

It turns out Akiyoshi was the main murderer after all, and she was the one who did all three killings and made Kusaka think that he did them himself. She also revealed that her father was the captain who died while the cruise sank. Kogorou, however, deduced correctly this time and managed to arrest Akiyoshi. He was originally trying to find evidence to prove her innocence because of her strong resemblance to his wife, but the more investigation he does, the more guilty she became. As Kogorou and Conan began to evacuate, they found out that Ran was missing. They find her under the deck of the boat with the help of a fire axe. Afterwards a helicopter comes and picks them up. At the post credits, Conan explained he knew where Ran was because when he kicked the volleyball, Ran said she heard a soccer ball, meaning she was in a place with a tough wall. The detective kids come, and told Ran they made a better “gold medal” for her, and put it on her.

The movie opens on a stage of a concert hall where a woman is observing two men during a practice. She sends a message on her cellphone, and then there is an explosion. At the crime scene, the body of a flute was found.

Elsewhere, an unknown person with the classic black silhouette of a man reads the news on the computer and comments on how he is getting closer to his plan of a Silent Night.

Later, on the grounds outside the hall, Conan is talking to Ran on the phone as Shinichi. He investigates and find sees an old man carefully picking up a piano key from the piano destroyed from the explosion, and putting it in his pocket. The man leaves in a car with license plate 52-83. Ran invites him to go to a rehearsal with her at the concert hall that is opening soon. He declines and tells her she’s meddling too much which causes her to angrily reply he will never be like Sherlock Holmes because he’s tone deaf. Ran angrily hangs up and calls Conan asking him what he wants for dinner.

At the rehearsal; Richard, Ran, Sonoko, and the detective boys are introduced to the characters who will be performing for the Doumoto Concert Hall opening; Doumoto Kazuki the organist and former pianist, Fuwa Takumi the former piano tuner turned director of the hall, Hans Müller the professional organ tuner, Doumoto Genya, son of Kazuki and pianist, Chisusa Rara Soprano, Yuhane Shion Violinist, and Akiba Reiko the main Soprano. The kids ask Akiba Reiko to help their class choir to sing their school anthem. She agrees when she learns they are from her alma mater, but asks them to leave immediately, possibly to allow Shion who is shy perform without fear.

Later on Ran is revealed to still be angry at Shinichi. Sonoko comments that this happened before and that she was angry at him for a week. She asks him how she forgave him. Ran remembers how long ago she walks with Shinichi home and remembers a woman singing.

The next day Ran plays the piano while the kids sing the Titan High School anthem. Akiba comments on their performance; Genta is too loud, Mitch is not putting enough feelings into it as he was staring at Ai, Ai is singing like an adult, Ayumi is perfect, and Conan is off key the whole time. She is revealed later to have a perfect pitch. Genta steals a drink of Akiba’s tea and acts in agonizing pain.

At the hospital, the doctor says that Genta’s throat is severe inflamed by chemicals and he will not be able to speak for about four days. The detective kids, Sonoko, and Akiba accompany Genta home. On the way home they are chased by a truck, at one of the turns Akiba takes a different route to get the truck away from them. She trips and is about to be run over until a taxi comes and the car turns. The culprit escapes.

Later, two more murders occur. One explosion kills Kabe Souko, with the foot joint of a flute left on the scene. The other occurs when the paraglider of the victim is inflicted with fine cuts to cause it to plunge from mid-air. In the victim’s car is the headjoint of the flute. These 2 victims, together with the 2 dead victims from the earlier explosion, formerly belonged to a group called the quarter quintet. Conan, indebted to Akiba for a reason he has forgotten, follows her to the forest as she is known to relax there on the day before the concert. She is attacked by a gunner who wounds her leg. They escape when the gunner pauses on shooting the killing shot. She does not report this to the police to avoid missing the concert.

Moore deduces that the murder is Doumoto Genya as a year ago the quarter quintet badly performed the 9th symphony of Beethoven whilst drunk. He assumes Doumoto was a Beethoven fanatic and seeing one of his songs defiled by drunks, murdered them. An evidence he points out was Genya’s hair was cut the same way as Beethoven. Genya reveals he got his hair for his mother and his hair is natural.

At Doumoto Hall, the concert is being prepared. Sonoko says that a balcony is reserved with 10 seats, with one for Shinichi. After rehearsal Conan and Akiba look for Kazuki to tell him a key for the organ is a little flat. Near a lake, she and Conan are knocked out by the assailant with a wrench. They wake up downstream where it would take hours before they are found. They hear an explosion at the Doumoto Hall. Since the Concert Hall is built to be soundproof and stable, the explosions outside could not be heard inside. The explosions are slowly destroying the pillars outside the hall to prevent entry or exit. Conan sees a phone on top of a building. He explains that phones work by hearing pitches of sounds as numbers. He knocks the phone down with the ball and Akiba and Conan exert the right pitch to dial 110, calling the cops.

They take a helicopter and enter the building. There Conan sees the assailant hiding in one of the VIP suites. He explains that the irregular note on the organ sets off an explosion and that there are 24 in total; 23 pillars, 1 in the main hall. He says the concert can’t be interrupted because the assailant is holding a detonator also. Akiba buys time for Conan by interrupting the concert to by singing Amazing Grace which involves only the first set of keys on the organs whilst the detonator key is on the third row.

Conan enters the balcony of the assailant revealing it to be Fuma Takumi. Fuma reveals that the reason he killed the first four people was because his son, Akiba’s fiancé, died indirectly because of them; and his pride as a professional piano tuner was thrown away when Doumoto Kazuki quit playing the piano. Without his son, wife, and pride of being a tuner for a professional pianist, his life was nothing and he wanted to bring silence to the organ which haunted him.

Just then the 24th irregular note was played but the final explosion did not occur. It turns out Conan removed the sensor from the organ before he came to Fuma. Fuma congratulates him and prepares to press the detonator but it was shot out of his hand. Fuma takes out a gun and prepares to kill himself until Kazuki comes and reveals to him the reason he quit as a pianist was to keep Fuma’s pride. Because of Fuma’s old age, his hearing is starting to deteriorate and so was his tuning, to keep his pride he quit being a pianist so he did not have to hurt his friend. Fuma comes to realize this and surrenders peacefully.

While outside the concert, Ran hears Amazing Grace played on a violin. She enters the wood where Conan tells her Shinichi played it to her to be forgiven like that day long ago.

At the post credits, Akiba reveals the song Amazing Grace is a song of forgiveness, a favourite of her late fiancee. She sings it on the anniversary of his death near the river which is why she did not pursue revenge like Fuma did for his son. Conan asks how Ran knew it was Shinichi playing the violin. She replies he has a weird habit when he plays the violin. Conan later in his house’s library plays Amazing Grace to try and find his “strange habit.”

Shinichi Kudo

kudo-shinichi1

Shinichi Kudo, known as Jimmy Kudo, is the protagonist of the series. Shinichi is a brilliant high school detective who often solves difficult cases for the police. After getting in over his head with a certain case, he is attacked and forced to take an experimental poison by a member of a mysterious secret crime organization that he was investigating. The drug was supposed to kill him, but due to a rare side-effect, he was inadvertently shrunk back to his childhood body. In order to keep his true identity a secret, he now goes under the alias Conan Edogawa and pretends to be a real child to throw off suspicion while he secretly solves many cases and looks for clues about the organization. He fears the organization will come back and kill him and everyone he knows if it is discovered that he isn’t really dead. He also has always had a crush on his childhood friend, Ran Mouri who he is openly in love with but cannot reveal his feelings to in his current condition. Before he was shrunk, Shinichi was a popular detective, a great soccer player, and was sometimes a bit full of himself before he became “Conan”.

Personality:

At the beginning of the series, Shinichi is a 17-year old student at Teitan High School. He was already well-known as a brilliant young detective who closed many difficult cases that the professionals could not, and known as “The Savior of The Police Force”. Jimmy was born to Yusaku Kudo, a mystery writer and Yukiko Kudo, a former movie star. He is extremely intelligent, and even from a young age, was very intuitive and observant. Due to the influence of his father, and the generally laissez-faire environment at home, he has long been an incessant and persistent reader, especially of mystery novels. Yusaku started taking Shinichi to crime scenes sixth grade which inspired him to be a Detective. Besides for Shinichi’s intelligence, he is also an extremely skilled soccer player. At first, it was to hone his reflexes but he grew fond of the sport. Jimmy is also known for his inability to sing, but was revealed to have perfect pitch. He is also a skilled violinist, taking after his idol Sherlock Holmes. He apparently can speak English, as he once conversed with and translated for an American diplomat.

Shinichi is very fond of his friend Ran Mouri whom he has known since kindergarten. Shinichi has not found any interest in other girls and their classmates already considered them a married couple. After changing into Conan, Shinichi calls her over the telephone and imitates his normal voice with the voice-changing bow-tie, so that she is not worried about him. He convinces her that he is off solving a very difficult case and will return once the investigation concludes. Shinichi/Conan is not without sexual fantasies regarding Ran; the most obvious example being his getting nosebleeds or blushing when he sees her in a bathing suit, or when Ran pulled him into an onsen (bath) with her.

Ran Mouri

ran_gakuensai

Ran Mouri, known as Rachel Moore, is Shinichi’s best friend since elementary school. Both are in love with one another but neither have the courage to admit their feelings. She is skilled in martial arts and is the captain of her karate team, though her resolve can be easily broken if she has to face anything related with the horror genre. Besides that, she is also very lucky in gambling. She spends most of her home life looking after Conan and her irresponsible father.

Date of Birth:

October 2nd

Known Relatives:

Kogoro Mouri (Richard Mouri), private detective

Eri Kisaki (Eva Kadan), lawyer

Richard Moore

270px-richard_moore1

Kogoro Mouri known as Richard Moore, is Ran’s father, a former police officer turned incompetent private detective. He was married to Eri Kisaki, a successful lawyer and childhood friend, but now they are living separately. Despite his irresponsible ways, he appears to care deeply for his daughter, and at times shows some flashes of honor and strict ethics.

Personality:

Kogoro is a private investigator, but he prefers to laze around all day. Kogoro can easily become infatuated with beautiful women. His dream woman is pop idol Yoko Okino, and he never misses her television show. Because of his behavior around attractive woman, he often embarrasses his daughter Ran Mouri and while it is not the reason why Kogoro’s wife left him, it is why she hasn’t come back.

While he is never outright called an alcoholic, Kogoro has a tendency to get intoxicated at social events, and Shinichi/Conan makes sarcastic remarks about him spending money on alcohol. In the anime, his office is littered with empty beer cans, and he keeps a well-stocked liquor shelf.

In college, Kogoro was the ace of the Judo team, however, he was highly vulnerable to stage and height/s fright. He is also an excellent marksman.

Kogoro’s daughter, Ran, is also the daughter of Eri Kisaki, who is now living separately after an argument ten years prior. Despite constantly feigning disinterest in her, Kogoro still has feelings for his wife — he has even asked her to move back in with him, but she pretends not to hear him because she is not “ready” yet, though she still has feelings for him as well. These are expressed through jealousy when he comments on other girls’ looks.

In the Japanese version due to his name Kogoro Mouri he is often mistaken for the famous astronaut Mamoru Mohri when he introduces himself, because they both are in the news frequently, of Japanese decent, and have the same last name.

He serves as one of the few roles in the story who learns about Conan’s true identity and helps the little detective in cases. He is also one of the few people who knows that Conan is really Shinichi. He persistently builds friendship with Conan/Shinichi despite Shinichi’s seeming disinterest because they share the same goals of becoming greatest detectives and Shinichi is the only person he finds in his age group that can rival his deduction skills. Harley is also a master Kendo fighter. Unlike Shinichi, his favorite author is Ellery Queen rather than Sir Arthur Conan Doyle who wrote Sherlock Holmes. He often helps disguise Jimmy to help hide Conan’s secret.

Kazuha Toyama

Kazuha Toyama, also known as Katie Thompson/Katrina Tolliver, Heiji’s childhood friend and a daughter of a commissioner who is positioned high in the Osaka police department. Heiji and Kazuha’s fathers are close friends, which would explain how they’ve had close relationship since childhood. Her relationship with Heiji closely mirrors Ran’s with Shinichi; she is too shy to admit that they feel more than ‘friendship’ for their respective partner. She and Heiji share a pouch with broken handcuffs which is their good luck charm. She forms a close bond with Ran after her initial jealousy. She is skilled in Aikido. This is similar to Rachel who is skilled in karate. Also, both of them are scared of ghosts because “karate and aikido won’t work on them.”

Makoto Kyogoku is Sonoko’s boyfriend, and the karate champion of Haido High School; his skills are up to the point where he can take on a gang of fifty sword armed men. He first appears in episode 153, and is a suspect during a case where Sonoko is a target for a killer. He saves Sonoko from the real killer, however, and hints that he is actually attracted to her. In his own way, he can be considered a valuable ally because of his Karate skills. Because of his participation in several tournaments inland and overseas, and a well-hidden shyness towards Sonoko, they do not get to see each other often. Although he is regarded by Conan as a brainless fighting champion, he saves him along with Ran and Sonoko many times by stumbling through the moronic clues left by Sonoko, which was originally made to find her and have one of her romantic fantasies come true.

Inspector Joseph Megure

c3365b4c402a08384283f76165c2a6da20090111154519

Inspector Juzo Megure, also known as Inspector Joseph Megure,is a veteran police officer who has been working with Shinichi Kudo, Yusaku Kudo and Kogoro Mouri. In fact, Kogoro used to work under him 10 years ago. He always wears his hat to hide an old scar which reminds him of a special case from 20 years ago, during his early police days which involved his then-future wife Midori. That time he was still a new police officer in charge of protecting a Midori who planned to lure out a culprit who uses his car to run over high school girls with long skirts. Megure saved the girl’s life, at the cost of a scar on his head.

Miwako Sato

anime_sato_8

Miwako Sato is a young female officer who works with Megure. Her father was also a police officer who was killed on duty when she was only six years old. Her former partner Matsuda was killed in an explosion. She made her debut as a cameo appearance in Volume 19 of the manga or Episode 130 and was properly introduced in Volume 21 or Episode 146.

Tough, energetic, and a dedicated police officer that her “dates” tend to turn into police investigations, but she also can be quite lively and cheerful. Sato is hugely popular with the male members of the police department, but to their chagrin she, albeit hesitantly, begins to develop feelings for her colleague Takagi. A running joke in the series is that their relationship never progresses because of interruptions by the rest of the police force. However, in chapter 673, she kissed Takagi when he was hospitalized, after Conan and the Detective Boys warded off Megure and some others who were about to enter. She has come to value Conan’s aid in several tough cases and trusts his judgment implicitly. She can tell he is no ordinary boy, and accepts him as a member of the police.

Takagi Wataru

takagi3

Takagi Wataru, also known as Harry Wilder, is an officer who works with Meguire and has a crush on Sato which is somewhat awkwardly requited. He first appeared in the anime in episode 21/22 (Lights… Camera… Murder), and made his first manga appearance in Volume 18 Chapter 171.

Takagi has an appearance of ineffectual nervousness, but he’s not as useless as he seems. He is quick to assess a situation and take immediate and decisive action when necessary are points in his favor. He also appeared to know (or at least suspect) about Conan/Shinichi”s secret identity and problem; this is seen when he makes close observation to Conan in some investigation and in the end of Volume 36 or Episode 304 when Conan wants to defuse the time bomb. Like Sato, he sees that Conan is extraordinary. When Conan and Takagi have a talk about the time bomb, he asks Conan “Who are you?” Conan says that he’ll tell him, but only in the afterlife.

Officer Isshin Chiba

Kiyonaga Matsumoto

1208007311_tokchef

Kiyonaga Matsumoto, also known as Kiyonaga McLaughlin, is the superior officer of Juzo Meguire and his underlings. He is widowed and has a single daughter, Sayuri Matsumoto/Catherine McLaughlin, who used to be Shinichi’s, Ran’s, and Sonoko’s music teacher in middle school. He received the scar on his face during a confrontation with a serial killer 20 years prior to the series.

Sato was partnered with him for less than a week, but his intense personality and subsequent death left a huge and lasting impact on her for years to come. Judging from her reactions to him shortly before he died, it is believed Sato was starting to fall in love with him. She has now carried the love on to Detective Takagi, though she does not admit it.

Eisuke Hondou is Ran’s new classmate and is very clumsy. Conan is the only one having second thoughts about Eisuke; the others think that he’s just a smart misguided student. Eisuke becomes an increasingly suspicious character as he begins looking for his sister, who looks almost identical to Rena Mizunashi; however, Eisuke insists that it is not Rena. However, his lie is revealed when he tracks down Kir/Rena to the hospital where she is hidden by the FBI, where it is revealed that Kir/Rena is indeed Eisuke’s sister, and an undercover CIA agent. Currently, he intends to move to America to join the CIA like his sister and father. In episode 464, Eisuke tries to dig for information on how Kogoro Mouri figures out his cases, and Conan mentally notes that Eisuke may be a threat to his secret identity. He is a famous author of detective stories, and he created the popular character, “Knight Baron.” He is extremely intelligent, and often had helped the police many times in the past solve cases that no one else could solve. His deduction skills are often superior to Shinichi’s. He was the one who created the name Phantom Thief Kid from Phantom Thief 1412. It was even hinted that he may have known Toichi Kuroba was the Phantom Thief Kid he was facing. He and Yukiko moved to Los Angeles to pursue their careers leaving Shinichi behind in Japan.

Yukiko Kudo

Yukiko, also known as Vivian Kudo, is Shinichi’s mother. She was a former actress who gave up her career at age 20 to marry Yusaku against the will of her family. She had been a rival of Eri Kisaki in her high school years, and tied with Eri at the last Miss Titan beauty contest that was held at their school. It is later revealed that due to Kogoro’s poor English comprehension, he had failed to submit his vote to break the tie. Because of her reputation as the wife of a famous mystery author and for involving herself in some criminal cases which she occasionally helps to solve, she has been given the nickname, “The Night Baroness” after the main character that her husband created for his mystery novels. Despite all this, she is free-spirited and often acts childish, much to Shinichi’s chagrin. She occasionally shows up in Japan to see her son and to track particularly interesting cases at the request of her husband.

Kaitou Kuroba is a male teenager who looks a lot like Shinichi. He also has a best friend named Aoko Nakamori, who looks a lot like Ran. Despite the fact that Shinichi does not care much about investigating thefts, Kid draws his attention by being an uncatchable magician. His codename in the police department is ‘International Criminal 1412’. Kaitou Kid appears in his own manga series, Magic Kaitou as well. The original Kaitou Kid (8 years prior to the start of the story) focused on mostly stealing antiques and high-valued art. Sagura has also made appearances in the anime and manga of Detective Conan, though there are times Kaito uses him as a disguise. In his Detective Conan appearance, he appears to be of high nobility with a pet falcon. His opinion of Heiji is very low; an example would be in the Lavender Re-Murder case, where he presumed there were holes in the window and that Heiji broke it down in a rush. This lead Hakuba to the wrong criminal.

Vodka is a member of the BO, who is usually seen alongside Gin, whom he refers to as aniki (“older brother”). Unlike Gin, Vodka is very slow and easy to trick and, as such, would have been caught many times if he didn’t stay with Gin so often. His name is Kasper in the manga.

Vermouth

Vermouth is an important member of the Black Organization. Her true identity is Sharon Vineyard, a famous American actress who mastered the skill of disguise alongside her friend Yukiko Kudo, Shinichi’s mother. They were both tutored through an acting class by the world famous magician, Toichi Kuroba, (who was secretly the original Kaitou Kid and who was later killed by an underground organization, though it has not been confirmed in the series to have been the B.O.).

Vermouth is the Boss’s favorite member of the organization, and she is shrouded with mystery. The cold-blooded part of her personality doesn’t hesitate to carry out the B.O.’s top orders in the forms of murders and so forth, without the slightest bit of remorse. However, she shows affection for both Shinichi and Ran after they unknowingly save her life as she is disguised as a male serial killer in New York. She eventually realizes who Conan must really be later in the series, and supports him in a way, by protecting him and keeping his true identity hidden from the other B.O. members. She believes that if anyone is capable of bringing down the Black Organization, Conan/Shinichi is that “silver bullet”. She also does not seem to ever age, or ages extremely slowly. It is still a mystery as to why this is. She even goes to such lengths as to say she has a “daughter” named Chris Vineyard and she disguises herself as both “Sharon” and “Chris.” She is questioned about her agelessness by Jodie Starling, who has a personal vendetta against her. Jodie remembered that Vermouth killed her father, who was also an FBI agent, when she was just a little girl. Vermouth never gives her a straight answer. “Sharon” later supposedly dies, while “Chris” looks on at the funeral.

Chianti

untitled.jpg

A member of the Black Organization who serves as an assassin/sniper and replaces Calvados. She appears in volume 48-49 of the manga and episode 425 alongside her partner, Korn. Chianti is first introduced to the Detective Conan series in episode 425 as an experienced assassin. In the anime, her sniping range limit is revealed to be 600 yards, making her a less experienced sniper than her partner Korn, as well as her FBI rival, Shuichi Akai. Chianti hints that she had some kind of connection to Calvados before he killed himself, though it is unclear just what that may be. Along with Korn, Chianti does not appear to like Vermouth. As far as appearance goes, Chianti takes on a goth-like style. She wears a jumpsuit and dark lipstick, and has a dark tattoo resembling a butterfly’s wing on her left eye. In the anime, she speaks with a distinct accent, and unlike the other members (aside from her partner), she rarely smiles. However, she appears to have some sense of ironic humor, as proven in the beginning of episode 425 when she and Korn are practicing sniping and he misses. Her weapon of choice is a Heckler & Koch PSG1 sniper rifle, and she drives a blue and white Viper. Recently, she participated in a mission in bringing back Kir, which succeeded thanks to Gin. She was about to kill the FBI agent Andre Camel, but an explosion interfered. She is forced to flee with the other BO members when onlookers appeared and called the police.

Korn

untitledj.jpg

Chianti’s partner, and fellow assassin/sniper. He appears in episode 425 and volume 48-49 of the manga. He is much older than his comrades, always wears a dark hat and sunglasses, and always has a cold emotionless expression on his face. Unlike the other members of the Black Organization, he never smiles. He and Chianti both resent Vermouth because of Calvados’s death. His face is designed in a way that makes him look as if he is perpetually frowning, and he has gray hair and wrinkles.

No matter what the consequences are, the BO members follow this persons orders immediately and without questions, with the exception of Vermouth.
